Save Money with a HP Instant Ink Subscription

Want to never run out of printer ink again?! AND get a FREE MONTH of HP Instant Ink Delivery? Read on to learn more!

When we got an HP printer years ago we decided to try out the HP Instant Ink Subscription and we love it. We never have to worry about running out of printer ink and it’s cheap compared to what we’d spend on cartridges on our own.

Get 1 Month FREE

First, we got 1 month free of the hp instant ink program! You can get a month free if you sign up through my link, to try it out. When we got our free month we got unlimited number of pages printing for the first month so honestly, we did a lot of printing. There were a lot of things that I had wanted to print for a while that I printed, and many I also used my laminator to laminate as well.

Click the green button below to use my referral link to get your first month free.

After 1st Month Free

After the 1 month FREE trial period ends, if you’d like to continue with the HP Instant Ink program, you can choose the subscription plan that suits you best out of the 5 they offer, depending on your printing needs.

You can see in the graphic below, and on their site, what their subscription plan specifications are including how much it costs per month, how many pages you can print, and more.

We started with the occasional subscription plan but quickly upgraded to the moderate plan and have been on that for the past few years.

We needed to upgrade our subscription plan to the moderate subscription plan since our kids are in online school, I print out a lot for crafts and hobbies, and tend to print out decorations and activity sheets for the kids.

The moderate subscription plan has been a great fit for us with 100 pages a month and up to 300 rollover pages.

If we don’t use all of our pages, which we typically don’t, the extra pages roll over to the next month, up to a certain amount depending on the subscription plan you have. You can always change your hp instant ink subscription plan if your printing needs change or you want to spend less each month. Just be sure that you don’t pick a plan that you’re likely to go over your printing pages so you are charged overage fees.

The really cool thing is we don’t get charged based on how much INK we used but rather how many PAGES we print. So a black and white one-word printed page would be counted as a “page” the same as a full-color high quality picture of their favorite Paw Patrol character. It’s awesome!!

HP Printers that Qualify

If you have an HP Printer that you bought relatively recently it likely an eligible printer for the HP Instant Ink service.

If you click on this link and enter your email address, you can start setting up an account and see if you have an eligible printer. You can also look at the list below to see if your printer is an eligible HP printer.

If it’s not, you could always consider buying a new printer that is HP instant ink ready, though I wouldn’t suggest that unless you have a greater reason to do so such as your printer no longer working.

Why Choose HP Instant Ink?

At first, we were skeptical about the HP Instant Ink program because it seemed too good to be true. When we got our new printer years ago, we figured we’d just continue to buy a new cartridge when the old ran out but decided to give this program a try since my dad loves it.

I’m so glad that we did.

This may sound weird but I feel like I have printing freedom for once in my life. Not that I overprint but I now feel ok about printing a full-color page, if needed, and not worrying about how much a color ink cartridge costs.

As I mentioned before, you aren’t charged by how much ink you use but rather how many pages you print. So full color counts as the same as one black and white word.

Keep in mind that your eligible HP printer will need to have a steady internet connection for the full functionality of the service to work correctly. HP will be communicating with your printer regarding how much ink you’re using, your printing habits, and using that information to send you new HP Instant ink cartridges.

Sign Up for HP Instant Ink Program

Signing up for your 1 month free trial of the HP Instant Ink Program is easy. Just follow my link and create an HP account with your email address and a password.

After Signing Up

The HP Instant Ink program will send you a set of genuine HP cartridges in black and color when you enroll.

Then they will keep track of your printer habits regarding how many pages you tend to print to determine when they need to ship you a new cartridge in black or color, or both! This depends on how many pages you print, as well as your ink levels. HP will automatically send you replacement cartridges well ahead of when you need new ones so you always have them on hand.

Then you don’t have to worry about running out of ink mid-project.

You can download the HP Smart app on your smartphone and keep track of your printer’s ink levels and how many pages you’ve printed in the current 30 day period.

Recycling Cartridges

Another benefit of the Instant Ink program is they send you a postage-paid envelope for you to send back your old cartridges. This way they easily can be recycled.

Another plus is typically you get a larger cartridge with the HP Instant Ink program than the typical ones you’d find at the store. This way the larger cartridge will fit more ink and end up using less plastic overall compared to the amount of smaller ink cartridges that would be needed to equal one of the bigger ones through Instant Ink. Hence it is better for the environment overall.

Keep Track of Subscriptions

If you are starting the HP Instant Ink program, ensure that you keep track of this monthly service fee within your overall budget. Within our family budget, we have a line item for our HP instant ink program monthly service fee so we can see if/when it changes (as all things do from time to time) and ensure we plan for the expense each month.

It’s a small expense but a lot of monthly service fee programs of small cost ad up, nonetheless. We’ve found this to be a good deal overall and are glad that we don’t have to worry about getting the next set of cartridges in time since they always keep us well stocked.
